Relational Therapy

What is Relational Therapy? Relational therapy is occasionally referred to as Relational Life Therapy. According to the best psychotherapists in Chennai, this is a therapeutic approach based on the thought that mutually satisfying relationships with others are necessary for one’s emotional well-being. This psychotherapy accounts for social aspects, such as race, class, culture, and gender.  Famous psychotherapists in Chennai, India, explains that relational therapy assesses power struggles and other issues. In addition to how these relate to the relationships in a person’s life.

When Therapists Use Relational Therapy?

Famous psychotherapists in Chennai, India state that individuals experiencing suffering from their loved ones, intimate, professional, or social relationships can benefit from this kind of behavioural treatment. Relational therapy helps those who have mood disorders, like anxiety, depression. These can cause relationship issues.

What to Expect from Relational Therapy

In relational treatment, you learn to identify how you may be pushing people off instead of attracting them and come to know how these behaviours are related to past experiences. Psychologists in Chennai explain that the target of this therapy is to create new thoughts and opinions about relationships and create a solid relationship with the therapist. Then they use both these new ideas as a model to create healthier, longer-lasting relationships with other individuals.

How does Relational Therapy work?

Relational therapy stems from Relational-cultural theory. It was the work of Jean Baker Miller from the 1970s and 80s. The work was about human connection and the ways culture influences relationships. Miller’s work centred on women, privilege, and power. Also, the dominant and subordinate roles played out in relationships. At that moment, there was a movement within the field of psychotherapy. It was away from pure introspection and toward an investigation of the dynamics of human relationships. In addition, it also examined its consequences on people. We focus on psychological problems, anxiety, and power differentials from previous relationships and how they could interfere with authentic personal expression and the capacity to create strong relationships in the present.

What to Look for in a Relational Therapist

Things to Look for in a Relational Therapist – Professional with special training in relational cultural concept or relational therapy. Along with locating someone with the proper educational background, expertise, and relational approach, search for a therapist with whom you feel comfortable discussing personal issues. A relational therapist should be a warm, empathetic, understanding, and nonjudgmental person because we can determine its success by the client’s ability to form a personal relationship with the therapist.
